At San Juan Live we like to stay up to date on what’s happening around here. And lately, there’s been a lot of positive progress in the region. Roads are getting paved, new businesses are opening and the beaches seem to be more beautiful than ever (maybe that’s just because I’ve been surfing a lot lately).
But one of the biggest developments in the region is, without a doubt, the completion of the Costa Esmeralda Aeropuerto, located between Hacienda Iguana and Rancho Santana. If you’re a homeowner on the Emerald Coast, this new airport is going to make it ridiculously easy for you to fly in and fly out without having to cross borders or drive long distances on the Pan American Highway.
The airport currently hosts La Costeña and Sansa airlines:
- La Costeña’s has 3 flights a day between Managua and Costa Esmeralda.
- Sansa offers 4 flights between Liberia (Costa Rica) and Costa Esmeralda on Thursdays thru Mondays.
- Prices run approximately $130 USD one way. Considering a private shuttle from the Penas Blanca border to the Liberia airport averages $90 USD, the extra $40 bucks to avoid the border crossing is totally worth it.
If you’re coming from San Juan del Sur or Granada, the road is paved all the way to the airport entrance. There’s only one spot where the bridge is unfinished, but otherwise the driving time to the Emerald Coast has been cut down drastically by the recent road improvements.
Flight schedules and prices are always subject to change so be sure to check it out for yourself here.
