Overlooking the superb panorama of Nacascolo bay, this 11 roomed boutique hotel has one of the best views of the area. And, around here, that’s saying something…
Perched on a hill and drenched in a spectrum of bright paint colors, the boxy architecture of the hotel cleverly exploits the areas greatest resources – sun and sea. The large swimming pool is surrounded by sprawling terraces and chaise longues to laze around in. Those seeking a shadier spot can steal away to smaller seating areas dotted around the place, or retreat to their private terrace (most of the rooms have one).
If the surroundings don’t make you think you’re in heaven, the food at El Jardin will.
The menu is delightfully European and packed with unique combinations that are worth sifting though carefully.
You could start your meal with the succulent fish filets marinated in lemon and coconut milk or by tucking into baked cabbage rolls stuffed with mixed beef and pork. For the main event gushing diners say don’t miss the signature burgundy meat fondue. If you’re still hungry the banana and chocolate crêpes could round things off nicely.
The menu changes with the seasons, but each time we’ve eaten at El Jardin the food has been excellent, the scene unpretentious and the staff all smiles. If you are a hotel guest, you’ll want to stay long enough to eat everything on the menu. If you’re just visiting for a cold beer and a warm roost for watching outrageous Pacific sunsets; that works too.
Located 10 minutes out of town El Jardin makes a stylish base for people preferring tranquility and relaxation over noise and hustle. Nearby highlights are surf perfect Maderas as well as the gorgeous beaches of Marsella and Majagual. Head 4 km (2.5 miles) in the other direction to reach downtown San Juan del Sur.
