Located on a choice corner on the only road leading into San Juan del Sur and the beach, La Carreta Bar y Restaurante is where it’s at on Monday nights. It’s no secret that this corner bar has seen a few face lifts over the years, but we’ve never seen it as hopping as it currently is under Claus’ management.
If you like swinging music, hearty food and German beer then you’re in for a treat. You’ll find more than just Tona and Victoria on offer when it comes to beer. And there is definitely no other place in town where you can dine on Jaegerschnitzel or Rouladen.
All German dishes are served with a hearty portion of green beans and bacon or red cabbage, your choice of potatoes or spaetzle. Add to that an appetizer of your choice, either soup or salad. The portions are generous, so this is a restaurant you’ll want to come to hungry.
If you come on Monday nights then you’ll want to either make a reservation or arrive early. The tables are taken by 8pm due to the popularity of the music. It’s an upbeat jazz and blues mix with a feel good rhythm that makes you want to dance. The dueling harmonica and saxophone solos are guaranteed to lift your spirits.
We can’t offer you a sample of the delicious German food, but you’ll get a flavor of the music here.
