We’ve been noticing that our post on “The simple reason why Tom moved overseas” attracts lots of comments from our readers.
People are obviously interested in moving overseas to a place like San Juan del Sur, with its easy going vibe, natural beauty and low cost of living.
So when we saw that Blue at Rancho Chilamate is looking for a Ranch Couple we thought we’d share the news with our readers.
Here’s the link to the original article, which we’ve also copied in full below.
Ranch Couple needed for Rancho Chilamate in Nicaragua
Are you looking for a year of adventure and work in a foreign country? Do you have what it takes to be a hands-on working couple running an off-grid horse and guest ranch in the tropics? If so, we want to hear from you. This is not an offer for a Job. Rancho Chilamate offers housing, food, access to transportation, a monthly stipend… and some cowboyin’ fun. We are an intimate Solar powered Guest Ranch offering guided horse back tours with 4 rooms for overnight guests.
Our current on-site managers Kate and Spooner will be leaving us in October so a new Ranch Couple is needed to take over their roles. Ideally we would like you to be here for one year and you would be required to start late August/Early September so as to spend a month learning the roles and responsibilities from the current managers. Be sure to check out the rest of our website to acquaint yourself with the ranch.
What we are looking for in a couple:
- 1 of you MUST be a very experienced rider with a good knowledge of western riding (and be able to provide riding lessons to beginners). The other should have some experience or be willing to learn fast
- 1 of you MUST be a competent cook able to deliver three course ‘Ranch Style’ meals for up to 15 people
- 1 of you MUST be able to drive a ‘manual shift’ vehicle
- Candidate(s) should have intermediate or higher Spanish, be very comfortable in nature, and be interested in exploring a sustainable, off-grid lifestyle.
- Ideally this is not your first venture into a developing country.
- Photography skills would be a big plus as well.
The ranch is located 20 minutes from the surf beach town of San Juan del Sur. The couple will be required to lead horseback rides and host guests at the Ranch in addition to managing horse care and staff. Hours are by no means fixed. Board, accommodation and access to transport are included as well as a basic stipend after completion of training.
This is a great opportunity for a couple who love animals (we have pigs and chickens and dogs and parrots and turkeys – that need caring for as well as 12 horses), enjoy living out in the countryside and like to spend their spare time surfing/learning to surf (we are close to several incredible surf beaches), who are interested in gaining valuable experience in eco-tourism and of course think it would be amazing to experience living in Nicaragua.
If you are interested in this position or know someone who might be please contact firstname.lastname@example.org and attach a CV and current photo. Kate and Spooner will get back to you for a SKYPE interview.
And of course if you have any questions for us about this opportunity or others in San Juan del Sur, please get in contact or leave a comment below.
