The Emerald Coast is a stretch of coastline between the towns of Tola and El Astillero filled with sandy beaches and world class surf. Two of the most famous surf breaks in the country – Colorado and Popoyo – are located here.
The development of the area has been kicked up a notch by the opening of Mukul Beach, Golf & Spa at Guacalito – arguably the most spectacular resort on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. Other notable residential communities in the area are Rancho Santana, Aqua Nicaragua Wellness Resort and Hacienda Iguana, all of which have been around for several years.
The Emerald Coast has been evolving rapidly since the opening of the Costa Esmeralda Aeropuerto in 2015. The airport currently hosts La Costeña and Sansa Airlines with daily flights between Managua and Liberia, Costa Rica. The addition of the regional airport is bringing even more tourism and real estate dollars to the area.
Yet despite the high end makeover, the area remains tranquil and quiet retaining – for the most part – it’s off-the-beaten-track charm. But with all the sparkling white sand beaches, the golf courses backed by gorgeous landscapes and the luxury resorts, the Emerald Coast is now firmly on the map as one of Nicaragua’s most important tourism and investment destinations.
